The Large Binocular Telescope Observatory (LBTO) seeks candidates for the position of Electronic Technician or Electronic Technician, Senior. The Large Binocular Telescope represents a major advance in astronomical research capabilities. The LBT will be the largest, most powerful optical/infrared telescope in the world. LBT adaptive optics systems will provide diffraction/limited imaging capability with the resolution of a 22.8-meter telescope. The selected candidate will report to the LBT Systems Engineer and will work on a variety of complex equipment, perform routine design work and/or build prototypes at the highest technical level. The position will be based in Safford, AZ with frequent travel to Tucson, AZ. This position will require work on the mountain top at an altitude of 10,500 feet for extended periods.The selected candidate will participate in the integration, acceptance testing and operation of the LBT and its various subsystems. Experience from industrial control systems is required. Experience or knowledge of Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) hardware/software is considered a valuable asset. The position requires the ability to work in a team environment, and to handle assignments independently. Computer literacy for electronic documentation retrieval and modification is required. A well organized and structured working attitude is desired. The ideal candidate will have previous experience with telescopes or other precision electro-mechanical systems.

* Installation and maintenance of various electronic control systems.

ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN: Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering Technology (BSEET); OR, Completion of a two year electronic technician vocational or college program AND two years of experience in the repair, fabrication and installation of electronic equipment; OR, four years experience in the repair, fabrication and installation of electronic equipment; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.


ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN, SENIOR: Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering Technology (BSEET) program AND two years of experience in the repair, fabrication and installation of electronic equipment; OR, completion of a two year electronic technician vocational or college program AND four years of experience in the repair, fabrication and installation of electronic equipment; OR, six years of experience in the repair, fabrication and installation of electronic equipment; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.  
Computer literacy for electronic documentation retrieval and modification.
